Renée Zellweger and boyfriend Ant Anstead are set to go to trial later this year after a guest accused them of negligence following an alleged injury at their California rental property.
Zellweger, 56, and Anstead, 46, were sued in February 2025 by an Orange County resident, Tracey Bryn Belland, who claimed the couple and their landlord are responsible for her fall at the Laguna Beach property in August 2024.
Us Weekly can confirm that a jury trial date is scheduled for Monday, June 22, following a nearly two-year legal battle over the case.
According to the initial civil complaint filed by the Orange County Superior Court, Belland alleged she “tripped and fell on the patio” while visiting the residence. She also claimed in court documents obtained by Us on Thursday, February 19, that “a thin rug had been placed over a hole,” causing injury to her right knee.

Belland further alleged that she has continued to suffer “physical, economic and emotional injuries because of the fall.”
The house guest accused Zellweger, Anstead and the property owner, Glenn Alan Wilson, of one count of negligence. She is seeking damages “in an amount according to proof,” to cover medical and incidental expenses, “all costs of suit” and more.

The property owner, meanwhile, filed a cross complaint in October 2025, according to docs obtained by Us, claiming that Anstead was the sole leaseholder for the house and therefore required to “maintain the residence in every way relevant to this case.”

Wilson alleged to the court that even though Zellweger was not on the lease, she “lived there much of the time.” (The lease agreement attached to the filing alleged that Anstead agreed to rent the Laguna Beach property from January 1, 2024, to January 1, 2025.)
Wilson has accused Anstead and Zellweger of equitable indemnity and contribution amid the lawsuit from Belland. He has also accused the Oscar winner of one count of breach of oral contract and filed one count of breach of the implied covenant of Good Faith and Fair Dealing against Anstead.
The property owner is asking the court to award him relief for damages in the form of his attorney’s fees and legal costs.
Anstead and Zellweger filed a joint response in December 2025, claiming that Zellweger did not lease, own or maintain the property and as a result had no duty to “inspect, repair, or warn of any condition on the premises,” according to the court docs.

Us Weekly has reached out to Anstead and Zellweger’s reps for comment.
Prior to their legal drama, Zellweger and Anstead had kept much of their relationship out of the limelight.
The pair met while filming an episode of his Discovery+ series, Celebrity IOU Joyride, in June 2021 and sparked romance rumors shortly thereafter.

In April 2022, Anstead gushed about his girlfriend via his Instagram Story, writing, “Happy birthday to this beautiful Lady! Red you are PURE CLASS! I know how lucky I am.”
The following year a source exclusively told Us, “Renée gets along really well with Ant’s children and they spend a lot of quality time together.”
The insider added in July 2023, “Despite being in the public eye, Renée and Ant love just hanging out at home with the kids, watching movies and making dinner together. They enjoy a very low-key lifestyle.”
