Peter Greene’s Cause of Death Revealed 2 Months After Body Found

Peter Greene’s cause of death has been revealed two months after his body was found in his New York City apartment.

The New York Chief Medical Examiner’s office revealed on Wednesday, February 18, that Greene died of a “gunshot wound of left axilla with injury of brachial artery,” according to People. Greene’s manner of death was ruled an accident.

Us Weekly has reached out to the medical examiner’s office to confirm.

News broke in December 2025 that Greene, best known for his role in Pulp Fiction, was found dead in his apartment at the age of 60. His manager, Gregg Edwards, confirmed his death to multiple outlets.

Edwards explained to NBC News that a wellness check was conducted at Greene’s home after music was heard coming from the apartment for more than 24 hours. That’s when his body was discovered.

“He was a unique individual,” Edwards told The New York Daily News in a statement after Greene’s death. “One of the most brilliant character actors on the planet. Had a really good heart. Cared about people.”

The manager also told NBC News in December 2025, “Nobody played a bad guy better than Peter. But he also had, you know, a gentle side that most people never saw, and a heart as big as gold.”

One week after his death, reports surfaced that Greene’s body was discovered with “some injuries” when he was found in his apartment.

Law enforcement sources alleged in December 2025 that the Mask actor’s body exhibited “injuries but it’s undetermined what caused the injuries,” according to TMZ.

The outlet reported at the time that Greene was found lying “face down” on the floor of his Lower East Side apartment with an undefined “facial injury.”

When neighbors spoke with the New York Daily News, they said they saw “blood everywhere.”

One neighbor claimed there was also a mysterious note found at the scene that allegedly read, “I’m still a Westie,” a reference to the Irish American street gang that ran Hell’s Kitchen in New York during the 1970s.

Us’ sources could only confirm at the time that Greene suffered a possible fatal injury to his face.

As fans waited for the medical examiner’s report for the official cause of death, Greene’s manager shut down speculation that Greene might have been suicidal when he died, claiming the actor had plans in the works for New Year’s Eve.

“He was going to rent a truck limousine and Peter’s vision was that we were going to go bar hopping and restaurant hopping,” musician Skam Dust told Page Six in December 2025, backing up Edwards’ claims. “He wasn’t suicidal.”

Dust confirmed that he planned to spend the holiday with Greene alongside their friends Danny Diablo a.k.a. Lord Ezec and graffiti writer MQ.

Prior to his death, Greene was known for playing Zed in 1994’s Pulp Fiction. That same year, he also portrayed Dorian in The Mask.

Greene, however, pointed to 1993’s Clean Shaven as the “favorite thing I ever did,” revealing on a 2022 episode of “The Up & Adam Show” podcast that he had to be “immersed in a character who had troubles and you wanted to relay it.”

“Remember when there’s nothing to do, don’t do anything and the camera picks up everything,” he explained. “If you’re thinking, if you’re sitting, remember when Chino was doing that scene on the phone. He was thinking and everything worked in his eyes.”

Greene recalled, “You’ll see when somebody’s doing the whole facial [expression] or you think when somebody’s really there someplace, just go in, have fun, it’s being shot and don’t think about anybody else. Don’t think about what they think about you. I really mean that. Go in there and remember you’re on your own. That’s a great thing.”

Greene, who is survived by two siblings, was remembered by fans and former casemates alike after his death.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Peter Greene,” actress Monique Dupree wrote via X in December 2025. “He was so good at his craft, and he was kind to others. We had such a fun time on set. RIP.”
